b. 1991 near Cologne, Germany.
based in Cologne.

Caroline Brünen (*1991) studied Latin American Studies in Cologne and Mexico City (B.A.) before beginning her studies in Media Arts at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne in 2017. Here she studied Artistic Photography with Prof. Beate Gütschow and graduated in 2023.

Her photographic works are documentary in nature and deal with photography in combination with text and sound. A recurring motif in her projects is the dialogue with her protagonists about power structures and body (images); and the attempt at deconstruction. She also explores human and more-than-human coexistence with architectural structures. Here, she is particularly interested in flows and fragmentation with regard to the climate crisis. In all her projects, she visualises her role as a photographer and her subjective gaze in various ways. Her work has already been exhibited at the Goethe-Institut in Paris, the Kunsthafen Cologne and most recently at the Glasmoog in Cologne.
